Hogna carolinensis
Big bad mamma. Found this beauty next to my garden on a rotting log. She was very shy but calmed down when she realized i wasn't hungry for spider flesh. Wikepedia says that these are the largest of the wolf spiders of North America and females are typically .98 inches in length. Well this gal was at least 2.25 inches as you can see with my finger in the photo (.625" across), so if I am mistaken about her species please correct me or is Wikepedia wrong :O !? These "scary" spiders are known to eat dangerous species such as the brown recluse as well as many other nuisances. Happy hunting to you mamma and may you and your babies enjoy my garden!
