Capricorn Beetle

Cerambyx sp.

Description:

Large dark-brown beetle (size well visible on the last pic). While we were on the beach in a small town on Dubrovnik riviera, this beauty fell on our spot, probably from branches of a coniferous tree above us. It appeared a bit woozy at first, and not in a rush to fly off, so we had some time for a photo session... Last pic is the moment my son took it back to the forest floor, adjacent to the beach.

Habitat:

Coniferous woodland / town park area, adjacent to the small rocky beach and larger Mediterranean woodland on slopes of coastal hills; Adriatic coast.

Notes:

As Ornithoptera80 is pointing out in comments below (and many thanks for your help), it is difficult to go further than a genus here, as there are several species present around.

Many thanks Ornithoptera80; I was actually hoping for your input here. ;-)

Awesome find!
It is definitely in the genus Cerambyx, but is hard to tell which one it is from the ones that were found in Croatia. It looks similar to C.welensii, C.carinatus, and C.cerdo.
