Found a whole lot of them probably belonging to the family of hover flies and flower flies. Thanks to BugEric for the ID and info. The ones I found resemble: Sweat Bees (Halictidae) » Halictinae » Halictini » Lasioglossum » Subgenus Dialictus (Lasioglossum Subgenus Dialictus) -source bugguide.net (pls view ref)

Thanks a lot, BugEric! Never heard of 'sweat bees'! With your lead I came across more on the topic 'they are all not honey bees' :)
These actually *are* bees, probably males in the family Halictidae ("sweat bees" as they are known here in the U.S.).
