Moth

Scopelopdes sp.

Description:

Grey moth. It was vibrating its wings while sitting on the ground. I understand they do this to warm up...but it does blur the photos! Its antennae look like miniature brooms.

Habitat:

Suntaley khola is a remote village in West Bengal, India with the River Moorti flowing by it. There is only one narrow motorable road that ends by the river. The moths are drawn to the porch light and alight on the walls near the light. These can often be seen sitting there the next morning. This one was in the garden.

Thanks a lot ChunXingWong for giving this unknown spotting a name.

Scopelodes moth. Those "brooms" are actually its hairy labial palps that can "expand" when threatened.
