A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Christella dentata
A native soft fern that thrives on the margins of rainforest, by streams or in more open forests with adequate moisture. Regenerates strongly, and can be encouraged to suppress weeds by covering an area, and also useful for stabilising creek banks. An Australian native, but also distributed amongst many islands in the South Pacific. It is an edible species, and also a folk remedy for skin diseases.
Spotted at Enoggera Creek, at margin of native subtropical rainforest in the Brisbane Forest Park. Very clean and usually gently-flowing freshwater creek amongst native vegetation. Very cool and well-shaded area. Severe flooding along this section of creek during storms with heavy rain.
