Snowy Egret

Egretta thula

Description:

Small heron or egret of N America. Once valued for it's plumes that were fashionable in ladies' hats it was hunted to near extinction. Then DDT weakened eggshells and egrets slowed in their comeback. Told from the great egret and cattle egrets by the yellow toes

Habitat:

Mission Bay

Notes:

From rarely seen when I last lived in San Diego, it was wonderful to see them everywhere
