Brigalow

Acacia harpophylla

Description:

Acacia harpophylla, commonly known as brigalow, brigalow spearwood or orkor, is an endemic tree of Australia. The Indigenous Australian group the Gamilaraay peoples know the tree as Barranbaa or Burrii. It is found in central and coastal Queensland to northern New South Wales. It can reach up to 25 m (82 ft) tall and forms extensive open-forest communities on clay soils. (Wikipedia)

Habitat:

Spotted in stands along a sandy track at the Lake Broadwater Conservation Park.... https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/lake-... This is a very flat area in a region known as the Darling Downs. Dalby is the nearest town. NB: Just a little over 12 months ago and this lake was completely dry due to the massive drought that Australia experienced. It's wonderful to see how the lake and surrounding bushland has recovered. Birdlife was abundant.

Notes:

I had no idea this was a species of Acacia, or more specifically, a "wattle". Just goes to show that wattle is everywhere in this country, but it's not until it's blooming vivid yellow that you realise it's a wattle! There are photos of flowers to be found at the second reference link.

This was the first time I'd had a really close look. Quite abundant in this area across the alluvial plain. The leaves looked amazing as they flowed with the breeze, giving a very distinctive appearance.
