Xanthoria (cup lichen)

Xanthoria spp.

Description:

Orange coloured cup lichen growing on branch of plum tree. The nearest lichen I can find to the picture is Xanthoria parietina.

Habitat:

Xanthoria spp.The lichen reproduces by shedding spores from its splash cups. These splash cups are on the upper surface. In wet conditions, the cup releases its spores and some are carried away on drops of water that splash into it.
