Hammerhead worm

Bipalium sp.

Description:

Bipalium sp. - A predatory platyhelminth (also known as hammer head worm due to the peculiar shape of the head). It was approximately 5-6 cm long.

Habitat:

Prefers to live in moist and dark conditions. It is predatory and known to feed on preys like earthworm. It produces a neurotoxin to immobilize the prey and then causes the body of the prey to be liquified ( with the help of digestive enzymes). The liquified remains of the prey are then absorbed by it.
