Bush Cricket

Description:

Large. green; rather like a compressed leaf.

Habitat:

I have no idea how but it managed to get in although the net designed to keep mosquitos should have stopped an insect THIS size. When I tried to shoo it away with a leaf...it shed a leg. It did not seem to be distressed and managed to escape...Again, I have no idea how. One moment it was there...then it wasn't! The net is new and intact.

Notes:

Shedding legs (etc) is called auto-tomy. Lizards shed tails. It is a survival strategy because predators are distracted giving the intended creature time to get away.
