Eastern Brown Pelican

Pelecanus occidentalis

Description:

My pelican friend had a white head and neck, washed with yellow; a grayish-brown body; and a dark brown to black belly. The back of his neck is a dark chestnut color with a yellow patch at the base of the foreneck. His eyes are marble yellow.

Habitat:

The once endangered bird now lives along the Texas coastline nesting near Corpus Christi.

Notes:

This bird had been fishing along the Port A Jetty. When I took this picture, he was trying to push a fish down his throat into his belly.

Nice Charmaine. Great shot. Could you check your coordinates? The map coordinates shows it out in the Arctic Ocean. Thanks.

Nice, I do like pelicans!

A wonderful bird is the pelican.
His bill will hold more than his belly can.
He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week,
But I'm damned if I see how the hell he can!
