40-50 cm snake lying on humus soil at the base of an oak. Usually its an agressive snake they say. Poseen un orificio (foseta loreal) a cada lado de la cabeza entre el ojo y el orificio nasal; se trata de un órgano muy sensible a las variaciones de temperatura que sirve para detectar las presas de sangre caliente.

It has been my experience that many descriptions using terms like 'aggressive' were taken from older accounts...but did not take into account that snakes prefer to be left alone but when confronted with an 'aggressive' species like humans that are large and potentially dangerous, they do their best to protect themselves. I am always irritated by this. I have had people tell me a snake was very aggressive and when I asked them to describe what it was doing, it was usually striking, tail shaking or hissing in response to being poked!
haha True!, that snake wasn't agressive, the species in general is it, at least thats what the literature and some experts say. But in our many encounters I just follow them at a respectable distance and they do the same or go away.
Congrats on your snake spotting! I find it very humorous at your use of the word aggressive though. One small snake surrounded by 2 large, predatory mammals...hmmm....could it be the snake was in fear for it's life and was only responding to that threat?
