Grass Snake

Natrix natrix

Description:

We spotted this Grass Snake today slithering along the path along our local beach here in Turkey. They are also known as Ringed or Water Snake. It was around 80 cm in length and around 3 cm in thickness. It had two quite distinctive buff coloured brown stripes running down its back that started from a central point at the back of the head and then split into two. There also appeared to be a large black mark at the back of its head on each side.

I believe your guess of Grass snake is correct, also called Ringed water snake by some.
