Oriental Whip Snake

Ahaetulla prasina

Description:

Although most of the images of these online are green, the colour of these snakes is very variable, from pale grey to yellow to bright green. Here I have never seen a green specimen. They are always grey or yellow or some combination of the two. The photo shows a snake that had just caught a skink. I am not sure of the species of skink.

Notes:

In Cambodia there is a myth that these snakes can turn themselves into an arrow and go straight through your arm. This probably stems from the snake's arrowhead shaped head and the darting motion of its strike.
