Red-billed Oxpecker

Buphagus erythrorhynchus

Description:

These birds are frequently seen not only buffalo but also on the necks and heads of Giraffes as well as many other animals at times. It is worth looking carefully through flocks of these for the occasional Yellow-billed Oxpecker which is much rarer. It has a yellow bill with a red tip and a paler belly, neither of which are very obvious at first glance. There is one in this spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/782... but I have not posted it as a separate spotting yet.

Habitat:

Sabie river thickets, Kruger park
