Description:

Black and red wasp. This is a wingless female. Has a powerful sting. Male has wings but no sting.

Notes:

Also known as a cow killer wasp. Parasitizes other ground nesting wasps. A male was flying all around my backyard and around this female this morning. I could not get a pic of it.
