A mirror is not necessary, next time you can just pick the mushroom and take pictures of the bottom. A mushroom is simply a fruit body, and picking it does no harm to the living mycelium below. Also, mushrooms continue to drop their spores even after they have been picked :)
thanks AntónioGinjaGinja that mirror is a good idea.
Nice finding thijmen.kooten, you can use a mirror to take photos of the under part, the gills,it seems to be a Sulphur Tuft mushroom,Hypholoma fasciculare, but without more photos is dificult to have 100% sure.
Take a look at this spotting where i use the mirror to se the gills http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/706...
I have also relutance in uproot any living thing:-) but it's my 2º mushroom season and now that i saw what realy hapens in nature with the fungi, they are everywhere ,lots of them, none is in extintion danger,so it's ok to uproot some of them,it's not "bad" to take one for make spore prints or microscopic photos,or to eat :-) i normaly take one and left the majority in the place.
Se also one spotting with spore prints,ok? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/942...
