Southern trap door spider

Ummidia

Description:

Male southern trap door spider. smooth and hairy black with two brown spots, approx 1.5 inches (guessing it’s a male because what I looked up said that females usually are not out wandering around, but in July the males are traveling to locate female burrows)

Habitat:

Gravel area in forest

Notes:

This is so exciting. This is my second trap door spider in my whole life, and both were this July. This one was moving slowly so I went and grabbed a tape measure to get an idea of his size. Also since he was pausing I was able to get photos close enough to see that this one has brown dots that I did not see on my first one. Either because of being closer or a different angle maybe.
