Common Yellowthroat

Geothlypis trichas


A small songbird with olive-gray upperparts and a bright yellow chest and throat. Males have a black mask and a thin white line that separates the mask from the top of the head.


I spotted this bird on top of a pile of brush in a large, open meadow.


This male had a female with him. She was nearby gathering food and made frequent trips back to their brush pile where he was waiting. The spotting for the female is here:
