Three-Toed Box Turtle

Terrapene carolina triunguis

Description:

We got these guys pretty often, the colors tend to fade out and sometimes you'll get a turtle without any of the yellow pattern on the shell. Their bellies dont have the "ornate" pattern like Ornate Box Turtles do, and in MO these guys are the most commonly found box turtle. Males have more reddish coloring on their faces and females are more yellowy. Read the MDC link I attached, its got some good info.

Habitat:

Missouri Ozarks, forest.
