Long-tailed Salamander

Eurycea longicauda

Description:

Long-tailed salamanders have long tails (haha) with dark bars. They look similar to cave salamanders but are more yellowy than orange. They're also not as common to find, which always made me excited to see one. This one was found when I worked on the Mofep Project.

Habitat:

Missouri Ozarks, forest, leaf-litter.

Notes:

For whatever reason the MDC online field guide didnt have an entry for this species, but the UGA species profile is good enough. For more info I'd refer you to the Reptiles and Amphibians of Missouri guide.
