Cortinar mushroom

Description:

A dry mushroom, about 1 inch tall. The cap's middle is brown and the border is off-white (3/4" diameter).

Habitat:

On the ground in a shady forest.

Notes:

Sorry that the second photo is out of focus. I was getting eaten by mosquitoes at the time, so I couldn't stick around for long enough. On the genus Cortinarius, according to Mushroomexpert.com, "a 'hygrophanous' cap is one that fades markedly as it dries out, often resulting in a substantial color change and, if you're there at the right time, "two-toned" specimens in a transition stage." Might be C. semisanguineus or bolaris. I didn't get to check the gills, so I can't confirm anything, sadly.
