"Pond duck" is a birder term I picked up in the US. I find it applies nicely. Some of them can be quite stunning, and others rather fanciful. But I find that most have either mallard, white pekin, or Indian runner as the dominant strain.
A "pond duck", i.e a duck of mixed parentage living on a peri-urban pond. The puff of feathers on the back of the head makes some crested duck ancestry likely. http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Ducks...
