Short-beaked echidna

Tachyglossus aculeatus

Notes:

Seen on the lawn with nose burrowed in, solving the mystery of who created all the holes in the ground on previous occasions. Quite good at climbing up large garden steps. Seemed blind, when we were still and quiet it unrolled from its spiky defensive ball.

Hi BrentDunn, and welcome to Project Noah! Nice spotting! Tachyglossus aculeatus is one of only 4 living species of echidnas, and the only one found in Australia. You can edit your spotting and add the scientific name, which Project Noah uses to index all spottings on the site.
