Spotted Flycatcher

Muscicapa striata

Description:

This is a common Old World flycatcher, small and slim bird, slightly longer than sparrow. Mainly grey in appearance, off-white and heavily streaked below.

Habitat:

Observed in Kunene region, north west of Namibia, in gardens of a camp where we were staying; these gardens leading to an arid acacia tree-and-shrub landscape beyond. The region is still very dry (but still magnificent and rich in wildlife) at the moment, following a three-year dry-spell.

Notes:

This is a migratory bird, and its breeding grounds are Eurasia; while it winters in Africa south of Equator - it can also be found in Eastern Africa, apparently while passing...
