Ailanthus Webworm Moth

Description:

Family: Yponomeutidae (Ermine moth) Total length: 11-15 mm. A common moth that has Red/orange FW is boldly patterned with wide black-edged bands of pale yellow/white spots. Hosts: Ailanthus, also other deciduous trees and shrubs. Adults feeds on nectar of various flowers such as coneflower and goldenrod (shown here.) Diurnal.

Habitat:

Meadows and fields with abundant flowers and weeds

Notes:

Have found this particular moth several times during the day (This was around 2 p.m.) as well as night feeding on flowers and also attracted to the porch light.
