Pirapitinga

Piaractus brachypomus

Description:

What an awesome name for a fish, it sounds tribal. When my Dad had these in a home aquarium he called them "red bellied pacus" which is a pretty accurate name for them. Pacus are related to silver dollars and piranhas.

Habitat:

Amazon and Orinoco Basins in South America.
