Eastern Worm Snake

Description:

Found under leaf litter on a rainy day. Very lethargic, possibly due to cool temperature.

Habitat:

Leaf litter under tall canopy, mostly yellow poplar in valley.

Hi Audrey, unless this is a very unusually colored specimen, then it is not a worm snake. Worm snakes have a pink venter, while this one is white. Worm snakes also have a sharp spike at the end of their tail. It's hard to tell without a close-up of the scales around the eyes, but I'd guess it's a smooth earth snake instead. Cute little guy!
