Ring-necked snake #5

Diadophis punctatus

Description:

Slender nonvenomous snake. Dark brown with yellow band around the neck & yellow belly. 1 of 8 spotted within a few 100 yards in this location.

Habitat:

Bicentennial trail

Notes:

I'll be adding a separate spotting for each of the 6 snakes of this species I managed to photograph (2 escaped before I could capture them!) as the data is being recorded for Snake count.

It is a harmless and docile snake, I agree. Only pointing out that they are mildly venomous, although they could not harm a human being.

Jarod, almost all snakes are slightly venomous - they use they venom to paralyze their prey. The difference is the strength of the venom - species like this do not have potent enough venom to have a detrimental effect on humans.
