Indotyphlops braminus
A tiny dead snake that looks like earthworm. A common and widespread species but this is my first encounter with it. It looks like a tiny ceacilian but the reptilian scales show otherwise. This snake is 132mm in length, making it the smallest species of snake in Borneo. Dark grayish brown color on top and lighter gray underneath the snake. Covered in tiny scales, this snake is reflective, making it looks like it is wet. Small head with 2 beady eyes, pale area around the small mouth, sharp tail tip. Though it has a pair of eyes, it is almost blind as the eyes are covered in transparent scales. This species feed mainly on ants.
Ramphotyphlops braminus lives on the ground and burrows under the ground too. Found in Taman Semarak, Tawau, Sabah.
>>>Map accuracy : 100m diameter. This is the first time I have spotted the thread snake which I have been trying to find. I know that Project Noah discourages spottings of dead animals but I cannot help to share the story. I only upload images that are not too distressing to viewers. I spotted this snake during my birthday so I believe this is Mother Nature's birthday gift for me. Actually, it was first found by Sham, my neighbor. The young boy found the snake slithering towards his house and decided to pick the snake up to play. Another neighbor saw him and quickly told him that he should kill the snake otherwise it will grow large and devour him instead. Unfortunately, he believed the lady before consulting with me. By the time I knew about the snake, it was too late. So I could only take photograph of what is left of the snake and told the children that this is a rare and harmless one hoping that they will grow up to be able to identify harmless animals and not simply kill them like most of the locals who lack of nature education. What surprises me is that the boy knew that it is a snake instead of a worm, maybe through the way it slither?
