Stick Insect, Phasmid - Female

Hennemannia alveare

Description:

This small sized Phasmid, around 8 cm has a unique shaped head, which gave her, her name alveare, meaning beehive in Latin; so called because of the resemblance of the occipital swelling on her head to the beehive hairstyle popular amongst young ladies in the 1960s. This is a new species of Phasmid and placed under a new genus, Hennemannia, named in honour of Frank Hennemann, from Germany.

Habitat:

From tropical forest, endemic to Sarawak
