Owl-fly

Suhpalacsa sp.

Description:

3 cm long. It may be an owl-fly of Sulawesi.

Habitat:

A house surrounded by mixed plantation.

Notes:

A surprise visit by a strange insect that got disoriented by light. I have never seen this animal in Sulawesi before. My first reaction is that it is a dragon fly. But the antennae is way too long for the odonata order. I search "odonata long antennae" and found a fairly good pictorial ID in brisbaneinsect.com (http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_...). I think it is a different species to the five Suhpalacsa species described in the website.
