Micruris tener
About 24" long, thin. Bands of red, yellow, and black.
Under fallen trees, East Texas Piney Woods.
On a daily walk, one of the dogs kept barking at a small pile of old tree trunks. Eventually this snake emerged, moving quickly away from the dog. Fortunately the dog obeyed when I called her off, and the snake made a circuit over the logs and then went back underneath. We left it in peace.

Okay, I will change it. I'm working from Alan Tennant's Texas Snakes from 2006. I did enjoy seeing it and I'm glad I had my camera with me!
But lucky you for getting to see one!
The scientific name is just Micrurus tener. Micrurus fulvius is the eastern coral snake. The two were split over 20 years ago.
