Neptis hylas
The Common Sailer (Neptis hylas) is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It has a characteristic stiff gliding flight achieved by short and shallow wingbeats just above the horizontal.
The Common Sailor is one of the several black-and-white "Sailors" in Sri Lanka, The butterfly is only seen in localised areas within the nature reserves The butterfly has a distinct weak gliding / "sailing" flight which is different from the other black-and-white genus, which have a more robust and stronger flying pattern.
