Giant Leopard Moth

Giant Leopard Moth

Description:

This is a moth that my daughters and I found around 1pm a couple days ago in my front yard in Candler, North Carolina. I thought it was strange that this moth was out during the day. It was beautiful with it's white and black spots and the midnight blue spots on it's head, and didn't seem to mind us getting close to it.

Habitat:

The moth was out in an open yard, under a big tree, sitting on my daughter's plastic table. It was just after 1pm and the sun was high in the sky. It wasn't very hot but it wasn't very cold either. I guess I would say that it was a very mild day.
