Dacelo novaeguineae
This family of kookaburras visited my yard yesterday morning. The first three shots are of the youngster - you can tell it's a juvenile from the short beak, white marks on the wings and the fluffy white head. He hadn't quite found his voice yet and kept making these sick warbling sounds instead of the 'proper' kookaburra laugh. He was trying so hard!!!! : ) Shots 4&5 show Mum and Dad watching over him protectively from a nearby tree, and the last shot shows all three of them together on the fence.

Wonderful set of pictures! And a cool, but strange, looking bird
lovely series
Beautiful family portrait series!
absolutely gorgeous spotting, Shanna...
Fantastic :)
Thanks for your notes on this spotting too, Shanna. I didn't know about any of the juvenile's physical characteristics. I'll be more observant next time is see them. Cheers.
Thank you everyone. I love kookaburras, but this little one was especially cute. Such a fuzzy head!
Great shots Shanna

Great set of family pics Shanna. Love the fuzz head.
Yep. A favourite. Awesome photos, Shanna. Heaps around my place at the moment. I suspect a territory dispute is underway, but regardless, I love to see them.
Yes, the chick is irresistible :-)
Thank you Mac and Daniele! A delightful little family. : )
