A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Passer domesticus
This is the female house sparrow. Also called English sparrow. She is light brown and smaller than the male and lacks the black throat patch. I call house sparrows city birds. Introduced from Europe to New York's central park in 1850. Now, these birds are all throughout North America. Not really a sparrow--member of the Weaver finch family.
This female house sparrow was spotted on a city street in New Orleans Louisiana.
