Female house sparrow

Description:

This is the female house sparrow. Also called English sparrow. She is light brown and smaller than the male and lacks the black throat patch. I call house sparrows city birds. Introduced from Europe to New York's central park in 1850. Now, these birds are all throughout North America. Not really a sparrow--member of the Weaver finch family.

Habitat:

This female house sparrow was spotted on a city street in New Orleans Louisiana.
