Clerid Beetle

Eleale intricata

Description:

This very shimmery black clerid was about 10 mm long. It had short but thick white setae covering the underside with a small tuft of white at the elytral suture near the head and two thin strips of white visible at rear end. Antennal segments were black but the club-shaped segmented tips were a bright reddish-orange.

Habitat:

Spotted on tea-tree plants (Leptospermum scoparium) in a reserve - Cardinia Reservoir park. Seems to occur predominantly in Tasmania

Notes:

This was a very active clerid and stopped only to have a standoff with another shimmery green clerid. So, my spotting is a series of the beetle parts !
Family: Cleridae
