Crabseye Lichen

Ochrolechia sp.

Description:

Ochrolechia frigida or O. alaskana. White crustose lichen with pink to peach apothecia. They are very plump because they are wet from rain, but when dry the apothecia become much more cup-shaped and depressed in the middle.

Habitat:

Growing over moss and other lichens on a rocky spot on the top of Pillar Mountain

Notes:

I was told by Lichenologist Alan Fryday: that in the last photo, I may also have Rhizocarpon superficiale in the bottom right-hand corner (the sessile apothecia are quite distinctive).
