Swainson's Hawk

Buteo swainsoni

Notes:

The Birds of Prey Foundation (www.birds-of-prey.org) receives hundreds of birds each year, and many of them are Swainson's Hawks. This young hawk was received as a chick and was rehabilitated and released by the foundation's staff and volunteers. Each fall, Swainson's Hawks migrate to Argentina, then return for the summer breeding season around mid-April. Some individuals may have up to a 17,000 mile round trip!! They ride the thermals all the way, expending very little energy. You can follow the foundation on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Birds-of-...
