Esta perenne baja que forma matorral y natural de Chile presenta hojas gruesas con forma de aguja y flores amarillas en tallo. Una planta que cubre el suelo atractiva y de cultivo sencillo para los climas templados secos de las zonas USDA 8 a 10.

A low, mat-forming perennial native to Chile with thick, needle-like, bluish green leaves and stalked yellow flowers. An attractive, easily grown ground cover for dry temperate areas in USDA zones 8 to 10.
Similar to S. chilensis in habit except that the overall height can reach as much as 35cm. Leaves entire, sessile, oblanceolate-spathulate, 1.5-2.5cm by 2.5-5mm, blunt, rounded-tipped with a silvery almost powdery indumentum which easily rubs off. Involucres 8-10mm by 1-1.2cm, the bright yellow oblong-elliptic ray florets 1cm by 3-4mm.

Habitat:

Chile, Araucania and Argentina, throughout Andean Patagonia, usually on volcanic cinder ash as part of steppe or low scrubby alpine communities at 500-1750m.
