Description:

An orb-weaver, this a very large Argiope spider. The above photo is its underside.

Habitat:

Very wet, tropical garden.

Notes:

Apparently these are one more visitor to Hawaii (from Guam) that stayed.

Thanks, I agree--it's the underside that I saw, and it does seem to be A. appensa.

This looks like Argiope appensa to me. :-) Do a quick search for images of the underside. You should be able to find some similar looking ones.
