Tolype velleda
This unfortunate caterpillar was found deceased along the side of a large dirt trail. It may have been dropped by a bird or a victim of parasites. Normally they can be found resting against a branch where their cryptic coloration allows them to blend in almost perfectly. Gray caterpillar with long, brushy hairs on skin flaps (lappets) along sides of body. Warts closer to head with a black band behind. Underside is bright orange with black markings.
Temperate forest bordering salt marsh/ bay beach area.
