Quercus turbinella family: fagacaea
Between 6 and 12 feet tall. Found in chaparral or pinyon-juniper habitats. Very drought tolerant. Found between 3000 and 6500 feet in elevation. They produce small acorns which Jays disperse.
They grow in often dense stands in chaparral habitats, providing food and cover for some birds and mammals.
These grow in abundance in our area.
