Description:

Distinctive white face feature, beak whitish blue, dark to black body with metallic green sheen in sunlight, adults grow to just under 40cm. Feeds on aquatic plants and vertebrates, green shoots of land based vegetation and garden scraps. Call is a harsh sharp one-off or series of calls.

Habitat:

Usually found in small or large groups on water bodies, swamplands, waterways where still water is available and easy access to floating vegetation, reed clusters and banks. Found throughout many areas in the world, including throughout all of Australia where conditions suit its needs.
