Vanessa itea (formerly Vanessa Bassaris)
The Yellow Admiral is native to New Zealand but it is also found in Australia. Specimens were collected and classified by Europeans for the first time on James Cook's voyage in 1769. Yellow Admirals are most often spotted in the late summer and are reasonably common throughout New Zealand at this time.
Flax bushes and onion grass on dry, sandy soil near the top of Mount Victoria.

I think the dating device got a bit confused, because I spotted the butterfly and began drafting the post on the 25th of January but actually posted it on the 26th of March. I have tried changing posting date but it seems stuck on the day I began the draft.
