Eurasian Tree Sparrow

Description:

A bird of sparrow family. Small, stocky songbird. Has a rich chestnut crown and nape, and a black patch on each pure white cheek. Thick bill. short legs. unstreaked chest, wing-bars. Females are little dull. Juvenile duller with grayish patch in center of crown blending into reddish brown at sides of crown, and indistinct dark ear-patch. This sparrow feeds mainly on seeds, but invertebrates are also consumed, particularly during the breeding season. Breeding time May-July

Notes:

In West Bengal, India this species are mainly found in North Bengal region. We have seen it at Neora Valley National Park in North Bengal.
