Description:

Flowering plant native to southern and eastern Asia. They are very common in local gardens in Galicia, Spain, and Portugal. In most species the flowers are white, but in some species (notably H. macrophylla), can be blue, red, pink, light purple, or dark purple. In these species the color is affected by the pH of the soil; acidic which can be taken up into hyperaccumulating plants. For H. macrophylla and H. serrata cultivars, the flower color can be determined by the relative acidity of the soil: an acidic soil (pH below 6) will usually produce flower color closer to blue, whereas an alkaline soil (pH above 6) will produce flowers more pink.

Seguro que la llevaron los gallegos a Argentina. En España no es muy comun pero en Galicia la encuentras por todas partes

Esta planta también es muy común por aquí en el Noroeste de Argentina. Nosotros le decimos Bella Hortensia. Me pareció muy interesante la parte de la descripción que habla de la variación del color dependiendo del ph del suelo. Es frecuente oír a los dueños de los jardines quejarse de que sus plantas originalmente azules ahora son lilas.
