Description:

A female worker investigates some jam.

Habitat:

A social wasp found common to the central United States. Usually nesting in the ground, they may also be found in woodsheds, old buildings, and attics. Nests are constructed from paper made of a mixture of saliva and plant fibers.

They are not bees.
