Giant Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillar

Papilio cresphontes

Description:

About 1.25" long, looks like a bird dropping. When my husband tried to "clean" it off, much to his surprise it stuck out two "horns" that made it look like a snake's head with a tongue sticking out. It stunk!

Habitat:

Found on my husband's beloved Kalamansi sapling (Calamondin orange). We are torn between our kalamansis and the huge butterfly that will emerge from the caterpillar. What a dilemma!

Notes:

Very fond of citrus plants.

Wonderful find... I've never found a 'giant' before I'd love to raise some.

Amazing find...would have done the same, having never seen a caterpillar like this, but what an awesome treat. (even though it stunk :)
